TUTUMO AND THE GIANT
puppet designer & maker
This project was inspired by an Indonesian folk story about a young girl named Tutumo, whose life is oppressed by a giant. One day, Tutumo is eaten by the giant, but she manages to cut through the monster's stomach with a hairpin, ultimately slaying the dragon. The puppets were created as Ruby Gibbens's specialism project at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The giant puppet features a blinking mechanism and a screen in its stomach, which is used for shadow puppetry when Tutumo is inside.
